La Cote de Nacre – An Easter Break
Ok the time is near as we look forward to our little Easter Holiday break to La Cote de Nacre in beautiful Normandy.
Why are we going to Normandy i hear you ask, well it’s quite simple really. My eldest has, since last summer been really interested in the Second World War. They’ve done a lot in school about World War I and II and we’ve also been making Airfix models together of various World War 2 planes such as the Junkers JU87, Messerschmitt Bf 109, Spitfire, Hurricane and many more!
To add to this we’ve watched a variety of films together such as the Great Escape and Where Eagles and he’s read a variety of books not too mention watching the whole of series 1 and 2 of Weapons That Changed The World!
As a result, i thought it would be a great time, just before he starts secondary school, for us to visit the north coast of France and see some of the beaches and towns where much of the action in World War II took place.
We often go camping in France during the summer and so i though it would be a great idea to find a campsite near to the Normandy beaches. La Cote de Nacre seemed the perfect place being close to Sword, Juno, Omaha and Gold beaches along with many of the museums, battery’s and cemetaries.
Although he’s very interested in finding out more about the places and battles, i want to educate him about the sadness brought by war and the debt we owe to those who fought so bravely.
The second reason we chose La Cote de Nacre is because the campsite has a swimming pool. As all five of us are going i thought it would be ideal as the two younger ones can enjoy the campsite’s facilities if my eldest wants to visit some places with me alone.
As i said, it’s not long now and all three kids are really looking forward to our break. I will, of course, share what we think of La Cote de Nacre and the surrounding area along with a variety of photos on our return!
